May is winding down and with it, life is starting to get back to the normal flow. Anyone else feel that May is just as busy as December? With school celebrations and graduations, recitals and sport functions, we have been swamped! So this post is going to be two-fold… I’m posting updates as well as my Summer Crafting Goals.

Remember the 6 O’Clock Stitch Swap I participated in? I posted what I sent to Maranda here. Well she was a little late due to some confusion with the dates and a hurricane that hit her part of the world… lo and behold – a package arrived for me on Friday. I was surprised and ever so happy with the contents! Not only did she send an 8×10 fabric art, but also a WHOLE yard of this fabulous fabric! I’m hanging the 8×10 in my craft room (yes pictures will come soon) and the fabric is destined to become a summer bag for me. If you love the fabric as much as I do, head over to Maranda’s shop on Etsy!

I also participated in a pillowcase embroidery swap on craftster. Here’s some pics of the bird and flowers I stitched for my partner.

The whole pillowcase (I made two so they wouldn’t be lonely birds )

Upclose Bottom Right

Upclose Upper Left

It was hard to part with them, I think they came out really great! The ones she sent me – I didn’t get pictures taken and gave to my mom. My partner did a great job on them – great stitching – but much more my mom’s style than mine. Mom was happy to get them – I added them on to her birthday present.

I’m currently in a traveling tea towel swap on craftster and just finished the first of ten that will be sent my way today. The owner of the tea towel mentioned she liked Wallace and Grommit… well I had to stitch them for her! It let me practice my satin stitch. They were fun to stitch – I’ll have to do them again!

We haven’t quite finished the craft room yet – though its VERY close. I’ll post before/after pics as soon as I can – I promise. Well, that’s all for updates, moving on to my Summer Crafting Goals.

I think I’ve admitted to saving a ton of embroidery patterns to my favorites… well I’m also accustomed to saving tons of projects I want to do. I can’t stop – its an addiction I feed almost everyday! I’ve started making a list of things I’d like to create this summer – my Summer Crafting Goals list… (I make lists – lots of lists.. in case you didn’t know). I’m not about to say I’ll complete all of these, but I will at least attempt as many as time permits. Of course these are in no particular order and I’m sure that tomorrow I’ll find something I’ll want to add – its an ever feeding cycle…

I hope that everyone had a great Easter weekend. It was cold, wet and not Spring-like at all here. I was able to use my time inside crafting though!

I took a break from the swaps I’m involved in (more on that later) and started making the gifts for my two nieces. Both are born in May, so I thought I better get a jump start. My oldest niece wanted a Japanese Knot Bag, similar to my daughter’s, so she could carry her Webkinz and Littlest Pet Shop toys. These are so easy to make – and a lot of fun cause they are reversible. I’m thinking we might put some surprises in it for her (top right and top center in collage).

For my youngest niece I made two dresses (and hope to add bloomers soon). One is a bandanna dress – following this tutorial - that literally took no time at all (bottom center in collage). I made a matching headband with the ribbon. Then I made another cute little dress for her out of one of Shawn’s old shirts (wish I would have taken a picture of that). It was made using this tutorial. I did have some problems getting a good EVEN line sewn for the casings because of the curves, but all in all I think it’s still cute (top left in collage). Instead of doing the center waistband as shown in the tute, I opted for a cute fabric flower (easy tutorial used). I also made a matching headband using this tutorial (bottom left in collage). Geez – lots of tutorials used here – but I promise - I’m a novice at sewing and these tutorials are really easy to follow.

As for swaps, Cookie the Gnome (bottom right in collage) is visiting from the Roaming Gnome swap. As you can see he’s been very busy, even helped us dye our Easter eggs. Kacie has had a lot of fun with this swap – and I can’t wait to see the other visitors we’ll have.

Another swap I’m in is one hosted by The 6 o’clock Stitch. I got my partner’s information via email this morning and I decided I’d embroider the piece for Maranda. Since I knew that this piece is going to be framed, I thought I’d try one of those intricate line arts (aka hard coloring pages) to use. So I started perusing through my favorites… and realized…. I’m a hoarder of links! LOL Pattytalks a lot about hoarding patterns, and while I don’t exactly hoard them as she does (I think she prints them out -I only print out the pattern if I’m going to use it)- I do admit I have a problem. I have so many favorites on my computer that it is starting to get hard to find what I was looking for. I really need to organize them better. If I see a pattern I like, I hit that little “Add to Faves” button. I can’t stop – it’s an addiction. (And I love this addiction – so much to do!)

So I thought I’d share some links with you to some great coloring pages that I think would totally rock as embroidery patterns.

It’s a very happy day in craftblog land! I just got word from Kerry at Freckled Beauties recieved her basket full of goodies! I can’t wait to see what she decides to try with those embroidery supplies. She’s a talented quilter/seamstress too – so I know those fabrics will go to good use!

Do you ever just get overwhelmed by all that you want to try? I’m so there right now. I don’t know if its due to spring (awakenings?) or just me. There are TONS of tutorials and free patterns popping up in the craft world online. I want to try my hand at so many of them and I have no idea where to start:

Lotus Brick Quilt by Amy Butler for Kacie

Japanese Knot Purse for Katie

Headbands for Katie

Dress and Bloomers for Leah

Lil’ playhouse and doll for Leah

Something (not sure yet) for Mom (bday and Mother’s day… any ideas?)

Set of Domestic Ninja Tea Towels – just cause (I’m sure I’ll find a good home to give them to)

Basket Liner Embroidery

Pillowcases (Embroidered) for a swap

And that’s really not the half of it. I could probably fill a landfill if I printed out all the patterns/tutorials I’d like to try. Don’t you just love our craft blog land we have out here? It’s really refreshing to see so many people share their life, experiences, and passions through their crafts.
