Knitting Again

I do hope that you have had a wonderful Christmas! One of the presents I made my daughter was a pretty knitted scarf.

That meant that I had to pick up knitting needles again. I’m so glad I did!

Last time around I didn’t learn anything other than the garter stitch. After making Kacie’s scarf in the garter stitch I was determined to learn more stitches. What better way to learn than by making dish cloths! So I grabbed some yarn. You can use sugar and cream cotton yarn, but this yarn was on sale at Hobby Lobby and it’s proven to be just as awesome.

I started with the grandma’s favorite. You can find the pattern here. This pattern taught me to yarn over and knit two together. It goes pretty fast too.

Being intrigued by how the yarn over creates holes, I made a dishcloth of my own design, tho I’m sure others have done something similar. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s useful! You can call it whatever you want.. Holey Dishcloth Batman or dishcloth for Saints(since it is holey!) or many more I’m sure you can think of!

You will need size 8 knitting needles and some 100% cotton like I love this cotton or sugar & cream.
Pattern:
Cast on 30 sts.
Rows 1-10: knit across (garter)
Row 11: k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1
Rows 12-42: knit across
Row 43: repeat row 11
Rows 44-54: knit across
Bind off, weave ends, and use! Great for windows, dishes, countertops, etc.

With a cape and a tiara…

TWO new embroidery patterns here today everyone! I do hope you like them both… but before showing them off, let me show you what I made for the EEPP Swap on Craftster.org that I organized.

EEPP = Embroidered Endless Possibilities Panel and consisted of each person stitching up a panel between 8×10 to 12×12 for their partner. Their partner then could take that panel and make anything from it – wall hanging, totebag, quilt, pillow… endless possibilities (see how I squeezed that in there!)

So, my partner is whimsical – quite like me. We both love a great quote, so I had asked her for several so I could get an idea of what she liked. She sent several, but one really stood out for me. “I am fairly certain that given a cape & nice tiara, I could save the world”.

(please ignore the water spot from my leaky iron…)

I read that and INSTANTLY had a great idea for an embroidered peice. Don’t you just love it? I loved it so much…

that not only did I stitch it up, I also made a watercolor out of it. I love that purple background and it’s absolutely perfect for my office.

So I framed it (and it cut off some of “certain”.. but ahhh… I still love it!)

So, pattern # 1 is Save the World. Yup, you can also stitch this cute and fab U lous pattern up! It’s sure to bring a smile on the face of those that see it.

Pattern #2 is the Boy Scouts Animal Heads that I had discussed on this post. I decided to share the doodles I made of the different animals I painted. I think they are cute (the antelope and owl are my faves!). The wolf wasn’t one I painted, but I had drawn it anyway and figured someone might want to stitch it up.

Christmas Elves – Robot Style

My blog has been sitting idly by as I prepare gifts for family. Can’t really show those on here or it’d totally ruin any surprise… not that I’m that great at keeping surprises. Yup, I’m a present peeker.. so if you are getting me a present, keep it away until I can open it. LOL

A couple of weeks ago I was looking at my Robots in Spring patterns. I don’t know what it is about robots – maybe its my inner geek – but they just make me smile. Christmas is all about holiday cheer and robots make me smile, so I figure why not put them together. When I was drawing these cute elves, I was chatting with my sis, Renee, via yahoo. She had made my new niece some hairbows and was telling me about her crafting success. I said I was drawing Christmas robot elves. She said Robots and Christmas? Seems like too much awesome for one drawing. I have to agree… they are alot of awesome…

Sunday is set aside as a day of rest. Domestic Ninja (DN) was going to take a nap today – she’s had quite the busy week. However, there was this craft project just calling her name. She’d much rather relax with needle and thread, working on an embroidery piece, than to take that nap.
