I’m not a professional photographer. I just enjoy taking pictures. I really like playing with the pictures afterwards the most. I should probably spend some time learning more about aperture and shutter speed. But nope, I choose to play in Photoshop with the pictures, using actions, tweaking this, cropping that, until I have something that I think looks great.

I have friends. Yup. I do. One of them is named Tina. A while back she asked me to take pics of her son’s Junior prom. Well, actually we were just chatting and I mentioned I love to take photos and if she’d like, I could take pics of his prom. So, I did. It was so fun. Seriously. Jacob just cracks me up!

That started my photography relationship with this family. Next thing ya know, I’ve taken his Senior pics and pics of his Senior prom. Either they like the photos I’ve done, they like me, or they like my low low low price…. which usually comes in the form of eating out at a restaurant. Yes. I will work for food.

Recently, I was asked to take some family photos. It was so fun! Jesus even started talking to me more than saying one or two word statements! I figured that was an improvement. Also, they slipped me a little more than just eating out at Red Robin, which was not needed, but very much appreciated.

I’ve put some of the pictures here, but last night, my son and I started playing with Adobe Encore and Premiere and I came up with a little photo montage video thingy. (Thingy is a professional term. Do not mock me.)

I hope they love it, it was so much fun to do!

Everything I’ve learned about Adobe Photoshop has been from YouTube or blogs. I’d love to take a class sometime and learn even more. If you know of some great tutorial for any of the Adobe suite, please let me know. I use it very minimally but would love to learn more.

WIP Update

I’ve got several works in progress going on currently. However, there’s a lot I just can’t show you. It’s so hard to keep secrets. I really wonder how you can have a blog during the Holiday season without spoiling surprises!

I’m working on a wall hanging for a swap that I can’t show yet. I want my partner to be surprised (hi Whitney!).

I’m working on Christmas presents (and can feel the time crunch big time!)

I’m working on two memory quilts working with clothing. It’s pretty time consuming since the fabric (shirts mainly) aren’t uniformed. You have to wash, iron, cut interfacing, iron to fabric, cut fabric… then you can sew. I do love the process though and can’t wait to see them out of the dryer all crinkly and awesome.

I finished one quilt top on Friday. I love how it’s turned out so far.

I’ve been interfacing more clothing and cutting into strips for the second quilt top.

I’m working on the calendar bitty blocks. This is the applique design I came up with for July. Very summery, but can be used by those that don’t live in America. Getting July, it was hard to steer clear of the 4th and firework ideas. I think watermelon sums it up well.

August Update

Whew! August has flown by and not surprising that it happened either. I’m always busy in August – school starts, Kacie’s birthday, extra-curriculas for the kids begin again, etc. It’s a crazy time! I had been doing really well in blogging until this hiccup. So, I thought I’d give a quick drive-by to what’s been going on in myworld lately. Doll Quilt Swap:

First the doll quilt swap on flickr. I sent the trip around the world quilt to flickr user partridgepeartree, who seems to really like it. I loved Terri Sandlin’s method and plan to use it again! It really helped to make sure the seam met up correctly on these itty bitty blocks.

I received this awesome quilt from Jenn!

She and I would be best buds IRL if we didn’t live so far from each other. She’s definitely a crafty geeky chica like me She even sent some geeky extras to make me smile.

Seriously – don’t you love it!?

Bitty Blocks:
In bitty blocks, I finished up and sent out my alphabitties. My letter was “S”.
I made some Superman Symbols…

and some Sewing Skulls….

and some Speedy Snails….

The snails were the most sought after by the group

Mini QT swap:
We were to make miniature quilts. I sent my partner, Shapemoth, my little hexie quilt I had made. She sent me this awesome little quilt.

Amazingly, we both did English Paper Piecing… AND had hexagons in our minis

Private swap:
I made this embroidery for Kimmie, a good online friend. And then, today it was featured on Feeling Stitchy! I’m so excited!

Just Because:
Kacie’s Science teacher and her Cross Country coach had a baby – we figured she needed to represent the school, so I made her some hair bows (no pics) and this cute little shirt

Life:
In life, my kids started school again. One started High School, the other Jr. High. I don’t feel old – so how can they be this age??

My daughter celebrated a birthday!

My son started his first job!

And I chopped all my hair off!

So yup, we’ve been pretty busy here…
