Doll Quilt Swap – Round 10

For the doll quilt swap this round, I got the most awesome quilt from Karen (aka Fun& Comfort Quilts). She really thought about me and my likes! One of the most fab things about this quilt is that it’s double sided. On one side is Yoda in 8 bit. I adore Star Wars (what geek in their right mind doesn’t?). And Yoda is full of wisdom (and can kick some bootay too!). My partner knew that I programmed too and cross-stitched code that portrays on of Yoda’s repeatable quotes so well – “Do or Do Not, there is no try.”

It is absolutely fabulous, right? Well – that’s not all!

On the other side is a rainbow of wonky stars. Seriously! She mixed my love of color (and the color wheel) with my love of all that’s wonky. I am a little askew you know. Then she cross-stitched my name – cute little aliens holding up letters of my name. I love things with my name on it. I sincerely think this stems from not being able to find a license plate with my name on it for my bike when I was a kid!

I am truly and utterly in love with the quilt I received. My partner did a great job stalking me and keeping me off of her trail. I had no idea that this one was mine – as the only picture I saw of it being sewn together was of the wonky stars!  She also sent some goodies along with that wonderful quilt!

The quilt I made for my partner, Karen – (not the same Karen, this is Karensc0sm0s, was full of symbolism and received with such utter gratitude that it just makes me beam from ear to ear. She really appreciated the work and thought that went into her quilt and that makes for a very happy swap experience! I made this wonky house quilt.

And the label on the back told of how I related the different pieces to her.

The label says :
Always There
DQS 10

I used houses with landscapes of trees and grass to represent you and your husband’s careers as urban planners. There are six houses, one for each of your children. One even shows a dog in the window, representing your golden retriever, Softie. The wonkiness of each house represents how no one is perfect (even our kids), but still wonderfully made. Each house is also unique and bright, showing how each of your children are different and have enriched your life with a lot of living color! The hand stitching represents the nurturing you have done with your hands as you watch your families grow and learn. The stars are in each of the 6 blocks and each one represents you. To represent Karen, I used Kaffe Fassett material, which you said was your favorite designer and to represent the cosmos part, they are shaped like stars. Their location above each house represents that no matter where your children are, that you are there with them, watching over them and caring for them.

I also sent her two fat quarters.

All in all, a very great round for me at the DQS10.
