Placemat Swap

It’s crazy hectic around here trying to get this and that done for Christmas presents… and what do I do?

Sign up for more swaps of course!

This one is the placemat quilt swap, round 4.  You are told who your partner is and between you and your partner you decide how many placemats to do.  Some teams make a whole set of four or more for each other.  Some go way above and make placemats, napkins, table runners… but me and my partner wanted to keep things simple.

We both admitted that the placemat would unlikely be used as an actual placemat and that we would just rather have a mini quilt to hang on the wall.  I have quite the collection started in my quilting corner and I love looking at them every day.  So we decided to do one mini quilt for each other.

Pam told me in an email that “Blue, green and grey are my fave’s, and I am partial to “houses”.”  Also, looking at her flickr faves, she really seemed to like improv quilts.  I had NEVER improv quilted and honestly – when I went to sit down at the sewing machine and start I was quite nervous.   This is what I ended up sending her:

Along with a cute mug rug and pin cushion.

I really liked how it turned out.  Improv quilting was very freeing and fun and I will do it again.  It was nice to just sit down without a real hard plan and just go with the flow – creating as I went, instead of doing the planning and then putting that together.  Hard to really put it into words, but if you enjoy quilting – give it a try, you never know you might really like it!

Ok, so to be honest, when I found out my partner was Pam – I was ecstatic!  I’d seen her work – and loved it, so I knew that whatever she sent me would make me very happy.  I mentioned that I liked appliqued quilts, cutesy/whimsical themes and word fabric.   I also like geeky things and when I read it’s sci-fi/fantasy mostly… And look what she sent!

Oh. My. Goodness.

Seriously – could it get any cuter? It’s Castlepeeps and Castles!  It’s my name! I love things with my name on it!  And then… she has the ray of sunshine saying Live Life.  That’s my motto for my weightloss!  It’s all about Living Life – and not sitting on my butt in front of the tv drowning in self-pity and low self esteem.  She just really got me in this little piece of heaven!

And if that wasn’t enough – look at the package she sent…. WORDY FABRIC and a magazine and a little todo list!

Seriously happy with this swap!

Where do you find all the swaps that you do? I have been reading your site for a year and have thought it would be fun to do some of the swaps that you do but have never gotten in on the beginning of one.
