Book Bag Envy

Can you believe that it’s actually AUGUST?!?  Where did the summer go?  With August comes back to school shopping for school supplies, new clothes, new shoes, and a new book bag.  But this year Kacie didn’t want just any ol’ book bag, she wanted a custom made momma special.

Huge Bookbag

Several months ago I participated in a purse swap.  It was a great swap and my partner made the perfect bag for me.

Remember it?  It’s from the Amy Butler Birdie Sling pattern.  Kacie fell in love with my purse and has begged me to make her one for her books ever since I received mine!  Surprisingly, the pattern isn’t quite large enough to fit her massive binder that she carries to every class.  Also, if I don’t have to, I’d rather not spend the money on a pattern.  Luckily I stumbled upon this free pattern at Warehouse Fabrics that was quite similar.

The size wasn’t quite large enough, so I widened it a bit.  I also didn’t add the piping – I love that bit of detail, but it really intimidates me.

We chose the owl pattern for the body and a cute polka dot for the top – both came from our local Hobby Lobby.  I also appliqued her name onto the top band.

We think it came out fabulously – and it fits that massive notebook!  Kacie better watch out, cause I’m sure there’s gonna be some book bag envy with this one!

On an off subject – isn’t my daughter just turning into a gorgeous young lady?

Thanks Kel! I’m thinking of making an apron with the rest of that owl print for her. I might be bugging you to help me since you are the queen of aprons! :)

  2. What an adorable bag! You should start doing this for a living– such a multi-talented person Kandra! Kacie is so lucky to have you as her momma!

  3. Super Cute! I’m sure that she’ll be getting requests from her friends asking if her mom can make them one too!

I hope you’ll stop by Expect Moore and add this project to the Pocket Week Linky Party!

My friends have already asked my mom to make them stuff like necklaces or headbands they see me wear that are Mom Made… I enjoy having a crafty mom too! At school when people find out that my mom made something for me they immediately ask me if she can make one for them…

  5. Would you please share the measurements you used? I would love to make a bag for my best friends daughter! I love the owl print by the way :)

  6. Piping intimidates me too (and thanks for the term – i had no idea what it was called lol)! I have yet to try a tutorial with it. That bag is adorable. :)
