The month of February, I’m the Queen Bee for the Mish Mash Stash Bash Quilting Bee. I am asking for a 12.5 inch block using the Scrap X Quilt tutorial.
I created 12 different fabric stacks that includes a 6″ x 22″ strip of Kona Black to use for the background and two strips (at least 16 inch long) to be used with with their scraps as well. I have asked that pinks/reds be the main color, with oranges and yellows for good measure. I don’t mind other colors mixing in, but when you look at the block as a whole I’d like pink/red to be the main color you see, with yellow/orange secondary (and other colors later).
I created a notecard to send with them printed it off, stuffed envelopes and finally got them ready to go into the mail.
I’ll take this stack of goodies to the post office tomorrow. Is there anything better than getting fabric in the mail?
But wait! There’s more.. in that stack of envelopes, I also have one stuffed with two blocks for January. The Queen Bee for January asked for a 6.5 inch double hourglass block and a “foody” wonky word. She’s using these blocks to create a picnic blanket quilt.
My double hour glass is probably the best quilt block I’ve ever sewn. I’m quite proud! I left the raw edges and enough room for the Jan. Queen Bee to square it up.
Then I chose the word Chop. I tried Yummy, but getting that “V” part of the “Y” was driving me bonkers, so I opted for an easy word. Though I’m so going to make more word blocks! They were so much fun! I’m thinking they’d make awesome throw pillows! You should check out the flickr group as people are just really doing a number on these word blocks!

I love the hourglass block…and that CHOP block…FABULOUS! I must try out the wonky words! I also love what you have chosen for your quilt. I am “queen bee” of a quilting bee in June and I’m already trying to think of what fabrics to use and what block to do. I’m thinking red/aqua.
The quilting bee sounds very interesting! Such beautiful fabrics!
[...] are the blocks I received when I was the queen bee in February. I’m going to add two more blocks to it and make a lap quilt. I really like how it turned [...]
