Inchie Invasion

I’ve finally succumbed to the world of inchies.  If you aren’t sure what those are – in a nutshell, they are art on a 1 inch by 1 inch canvas.  Google inchies and you’ll find yourself inundated with websites that you MUST checkout.

They are having another inchie swap on Craftster and I decided to join in.  Little did I know how addicting these little boogers are!  We are supposed to make 49 inchies and send 7 of them to 7 different people.  Here are the ones I did.

First I started decoupaging (LOVE MOD PODGE!) from old children’s books we have.  These books are beyond repair and we’ve had them in the garage to “alter”… yeah, well I haven’t made it to altered books yet, so I used some of the images for inchies.

Then I decided to take my love of embroidery and do some with thread art.  These were a lot of fun and I think I’ll try some more thread art patterns on larger canvases.  I really like them.

Then I doodled on some of them (and of course added glitter… got to have glitter!)

Here are some more where I doodled or used objects I had on hand.   The ones on the bottom have a base of watercolor, then glitter, then feathers, then rhinestones.

Now here’s where I started using my noggin’ big time.  I made a sheet in photoshop and split it into inches.  Then I used the multiple paint brushes I have and put images all over that sheet in photoshop.  I saved it as a .pdf and printed it onto white tissue paper.  I then took colored pencils, colored them, cut them out and then decoupaged them to the watercolor/marker backgrounds.  Sometimes I’d add glitter, sometimes I’d add rhinestones.  I really love how these turned out.

I’m really proud of my first attempt at inchies.  I’d like to doodle more and would definitely like to make some more using photoshop and tissue paper.  I also loved the thread art technique.  I’m not sure in my group which 7 will go to which person, but I do hope they like them!

Go try something new!

Keep Kraftin’

  3. I seriously don’t need one more project to do. But these are so seriously cute that I’m considering making some. I’m loving the ones w/the children’s book illustrations…makes me wish I’d have kept some of those books that I weeded from the school library years ago!

  4. they are all so very nice. I admire your ability to have many different styles!
