Hey blogland! I hope your holiday was as great as mine! I was going to make the first post after the Christmas season all about the presents I made for others and how they were received. I’ll share those at a later date, as I’m head over heels in love with watercolors. I love to paint and have used oils and acrylics in the past. I never thought I’d like watercolors, but over the last 3-4 years I kept wanting to play with it. Then I started doing those relief portraits using watercolors… then I did that robot painting… well I kept wanting to do more, but just didn’t have the time or money to get more supplies. Lo and behold, for Christmas, I received several Hobby Lobby giftcards and spent them on watercolor supplies.
Then I waited until we went back home from my mom’s house… spent that time playing Dragon Age, watching movies, or surfing the net looking at watercolor lessons. We got in last night around 7:30 pm. I couldn’t stand it any longer, and before unpacking had to start my very first landscape.
Ok granted, I have alot of room for improvement. The colors are too muddy, I really need to work on detail, etc. but it was fun and I enjoyed every minute of it. Can you see the backside of a squirrel running behind the tree? That’s my daughter’s influence. She’s spent many times watching Bob Ross with me and insisted that I have a “happy little squirrel” in my painting.
By the time I finished, it was rather late… but I couldn’t stop. So I took a watercolor card and drew a doodle on it. Some of you may remember it from the Valentine’s Day embroidery patterns we released last year. I loved coloring this doodle with watercolors. I’ll definetely do more of these types of paintings… seriously need a whole robot series of cards right? A robot for every occasion…
Today I thought I’d practice, so I did 3 small paintings of trees using different methods.
Not too shabby, room for improvement, but again, not bad for first try.
Are you going to learn something new this coming year? Trying out something different?
Hope you have a great 2010 – and always remember to Keep Kraftin’!
