Yes – that is a direct quote from the corny movie Galaxy Quest… and yes… I even enjoyed watching it!
Have you ever had these awesome projects in your head that you just KNEW were going to come out … awesome… and then.. well they took a wrong turn somewhere? That’s been my experience this week. The Art Center of the Ozarks has a 5×5 Soiree. They give out these cute little 5×5 white canvas to local artists and then you create something and give it back. Then about a month later, there is a silent auction where you can bid/buy the mini pieces of art. The ACO has done this for several years and successfully raises some funds for their programs.
I was so excited when I found out that anyone could participate. This was going to be my shining moment… my crossover from the craft arena to the art arena. I was going to enter it with a quirky bang! I was going to use candy (m&m minis) to do a mosaic eye and call it EYECandy by Kandra.
Ummm… No… didn’t quite happen. Let’s just say it came out a cute little piece that I can appreciate, but will fall like a dud bottle rocket.
I’m not entering it. It just didn’t come out on the canvas as I had in my mind. I was so excited too! Oh well, I’ll hang it in my craft room and smile when I see it.
Then the person who is the queen bee for the MishMashStashBash Quilting Bee wanted hexagons. I thought about it, found an awesome shape, had a great friend make a pattern for me, including 1/4 seam allowances, in AutoCAD. He even printed it for me to size and we laminated it. I got all the peices cut out.
This was going to look awesome! I couldn’t wait to start…
Yeah – that didn’t turn out so well either. Look at those corners – totally WAY off. And this wasn’t my first try, or my second… this is the THIRD! Time to throw the towel in on that one! Not quite sure what I’m going to do, but I’ll salvage it somehow.
So, as you can see I’ve had a couple projects just not come out like I had planned this week. That’s ok though.. You know why? Cause my FERB totally Rocks!
My sister’s baby shower was a great success! Here’s the spread.
Renee loved the presents I made for River.
Katie looked adorable with that Big Sis pin!
Look at all those awesome onesies!
(Even my Grandma got in on the craftin’!)
Aren’t those little angel wings just perfect?!?!
And the # 1 reason it’s alright – I’ll NEVER GIVE UP and NEVER SURRENDER! It’s all a creative process – I’ve learned from this. I’ll keep trying, and of course always will…
Keep Kraftin’,
Kandra

What a GREAT idea for a baby shower! (BTW Galaxy Quest ROCKS – corny as it is!)
